THIS IS YOUR GOD...     Audio

“It’s a golden calf from the Bible, a false idol, the Bull of Wall Street...The piece hints at the Capital system as an idol that we have worshiped for decades and is unfortunately proving to be false," said the artist Errazuriz at the unveiling of his Golden Calf piñata in NYC last year.

Filled with $1000 in single bills, the glittering, 15ft high and 24ft long beast was whacked with "Communist red" sticks until dollar bills rained down on participants.  Watch the feeding frenzy at http://nydn.us/1k3u1tS.

Not far away is another popular "idol" concept. The 700 pound sculpture of the Charging Bull of Wall Street is the most photographed spot in all of New York City. The artist Arturo DiModica chose the bull as a symbol of the “power of the American people".    More...

06/21 ROOTS BY THE STREAM      Audio

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year ...of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 19:7-8.

Notice these verses begin with “But”. That’s because the verses preceding them said something a whole lot different. Verses 5-6: “This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.”

06/14 ASHAMED AND CONFOUNDED       Audio

2600 or so years ago in Iraq, the heavens opened to the ancient biblical prophet Ezekiel. Of all the places God could have chosen to reveal the endtimes of humanity, His choice of Iraq is definitely a head-scratcher!

But that's exactly what we need today. Paul said it so well in 1 Corinthians 1:27. "But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty."

Today we have the powerful lesson of a mighty nation who worshipped God and reveled in His abundant blessings. But in arrogance and pride, they chose to exalt themselves by trusting in their own national might for deliverance from their enemies.

God’s blessing had been upon Israel since the days of Abraham. “I will build a great nation from you. I will bless you and make your name famous. People will use your name to bless other people. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse those who curse you. I will use you to bless all the people on earth.” Genesis 12:2-3.
God protected and preserved Israel over and over again.  But it wasn't long before the nation moved from their humble stance under the watchcare of the Lord, to the humanistic, proud notion that they alone could, and should, deliver themselves from their enemies. More...

05/31 WE ARE SURROUNDED... Audio

This is a picture of the Great Smoky Mountains smokin'! Thick clouds hang over the mountains after a bit of thunder and lightning. This is the perfect picture illustration for today's lesson on faith. On God’s timeline for mankind, today is the 12th day of the third biblical month of Sivan. Here's what happened 3500 years ago around this time.

Exodus 19:1,13-19: “On the third month after the Israelites left Egypt-on the very day-they came to the Desert of Sinai...In the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast. Everyone in the camp trembled. Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. " More...

Today we stand in an awesome place and time on God’s calendar for mankind. This is the Almighty’s appointed season for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon His people.

Before leaving them, Jesus had instructed the disciples to tarry in Jerusalem until they had received the promise of the Father. “I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” Luke 24:49.

The disciples had been waiting in Jerusalem for 9-10 days since the ascension of Jesus into heaven. Acts 2:1-4 describes the setting: “When the Day of Pentecost came, the disciples were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. ...” More...

05/17 THIS SAME JESUS      Audio

This week marks the anniversary of Jesus’ ascension into heaven. On the 40th day of His resurrection, Jesus was lifted up and "received" into a cloud and physically disappeared.

This pivotal event occured during the second month on God’ calendar. Appointed over 3500 years ago, this month, called Ziv, is all about counting the days. Even the disciples were closely watching the passage of time, having learned God’s calendar in Leviticus 23.  More...

“Now the rabble that was among them had a strong craving...They buried the people who had the craving” Numbers 11:4, 34.

An appropriate translation of the Hebrew phrase “strong craving” is “lusted a lust”. Of course, all of us Christians will protest that we don’t lust. But that certainly isn’t true, and we all know it. Even if we don’t get mired knee-deep in sexual desires, we don’t think a thing in the world about salivating over a mouth-watering steak or making the statement that a sensual chocolate dessert is “to die for”. Yes, if we are really honest, we can envision it, even covet the taste of it, long before we sink our teeth into the first decadent bite. And when we’ve finally fulfilled our desire, we sit back and bask in the sheer “heaven” of it all!  More...

05/03 THE DESERT OF SIN      Audio

3500 years ago, millions of Israelites entered the Desert of Sin, only 1½ months after being set free from captivity in Egypt.  According to God’s biblical calendar in the Old Testament, this evening, May 3, 2015 ushers in the 15th day of the second month, the anniversary of the very day God’s chosen people arrived in Sin.

04/26 ON MOUNT MORIAH      Audio
Easily the most hotly contested and desired real estate on the entire planet, Mount Moriah’s history is literally, out of this world. In God’s perfect timing and at His hallowed location, the ultimate sacrifice for all time was appointed to die.
Mount Moriah is not actually a single mountain top, but an elongated ridge that rises on the southern end of current day Jerusalem and continues past the current Muslim Temple Mount. More...

04/19 EVERY MAN BY NAME     Audio

The Lord said to Abraham in Genesis 15:5: “Look up at the heavens and count the stars—if indeed you can count them…so shall your offspring be.” Today, astronomers estimate that there are ten thousand billion trillion stars – that’s a 1 followed by 25 zeros! And they readily admit this number may be way below the actual count for all the starry hosts in the sky.

“On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river, the Tigris…” Daniel 10:4.

This date was significant enough to be recorded in God’s word, in exactly the book of the Bible that speaks of the end times of the world as we know it.  Audio and more...

04/05 IT IS FINISHED        Audio

As we gaze into the heavens today, we see exactly the same sky the Israelites would have seen 3500 years ago when they were rousted in the middle of the night and ordered to leave Egypt. With clockwork precision, as the earth hurtles through space at 66,700 miles per hour, the sun moon and stars appear to us in the very same cycles year after year. And it is precisely because of the combination of the Exodus of the Israelites and God’s perfect, orderly timing of the heavens that we gather together today in the shadow of the Cross.

03/22 IN THE BEGINNING GOD… (Public Domain photo)  Audio

When the first manned mission to the moon, Apollo 8, carried mankind into lunar orbit for the very first time on December 24, 1968, they sent a live message back to Planet Earth.

Lunar Module Pilot William Anders began the landmark broadcast with these words: "We are now approaching lunar sunrise. For all the people back on earth, the crew of Apollo 8... has a message we would like to send to you. 'In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth...'"

03/15 LIKE A BRIDEGROOM...     Audio
“Sonrise" overlooking the lake at Fontana Dam, NC)

The phrase “Play Me, I’m Yours” was plastered across a piano just sitting in the middle of a busy airport. A little boy sat down and began to play. Like a true virtuoso, he was oblivious to those around him. All... that was real to him were his hands becoming one with that instrument. The sound that issued forth from their union was absolutely astounding. But most folks missed it all, because their focus was on their busy schedule and final destination. Watch it at http://youtu.be/rRfxDj-R1kc

Though the general appearance of Egypt probably has not changed remarkably since biblical days, the nation is really just a shadow of what it once was. Her legendary pyramids languish in disrepair, even as modern civilization encroaches right on their doorstep. A neighborhood Pizza Hut is jokingly referred to as “Pizza Tut” because
looking through its front window provides the best view of the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid of Giza, which are literally, right across the street.

03/01 WHO KNOWS...                   Audio

Billowing fire as ancient Jerusalem is laid waste and burnt to the ground by marauding enemies. Ominous plumes of smoke just minutes before the 220 floors of the Twin Towers implode following a terrorist attack. What could they possibly have in common?

More than you think!

“I tell you that one greater than the temple is here.” Matthew 12:6.

When Jesus said this in reply to the Pharisees who were accusing Him of doing something unlawful on the Sabbath, His reply rocked their religious world. He blew apart every worship concept they had of their temple and their Sabbath, what we call today our “church” and our “Sunday”.

And He wasn’t even standing in a pulpit when He nailed Israel for their “religiousness”. He and his disciples were walking through a field of grain, on their way to the temple in Jerusalem. The disciples were hungry, so they began plucking some of the grains of wheat and eating them.   More...

Surprisingly, the US 1990-1991 Gulf War actually interrupted the 20th century ...rebuilding of the long lost city of Babylon. The inscription on the bricks used in the new construction of the city says it all. "This was built by Saddam Hussein, son of Nebuchadnezzar, to glorify Iraq.”

...A lot of us Christians think that many Old Testament subjects are just simply history and don’t really apply to us anymore. We all need this lesson today as a warning that the physical and spiritual presence of the infamous biblical Babylon still does exist. And to this day, that greatly affects the outcome of our future. More...

“Therefore Jesus no longer moved about publicly among the people of Judea. Instead he withdrew to a region near the wilderness, to a village called Ephraim, where he stayed with his disciples.” John 11:54.

Soon after raising Lazarus from the dead, Jesus retreated to the village of Ephraim. That village is believed to be the same one known today as  Ephraim-Taybeth. 1400 people still live in this picturesque mountain town. The video “Snow in Taybeth 2/3/2012” by former resident Wizam Khoury is absolutely the perfect setting as we follow in the footsteps of Jesus during the last winter of His life.  More...

Jesus Christ spent the last winter of His life comforting those He loved by speaking eternal words of promise and hope. “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26.

We can trace the footsteps of Jesus during the winter months by referring back to John 10:22. “Then came the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem. It was winter and Jesus was in the temple area…” More...

Around 1400 BC, in the desert east of the Jordan, in the territory then called Moab, Deuteronomy 1:3 records this: “In the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses proclaimed to the Israelites all that the LORD had commanded him concerning them.”

Moses proceeded to deliver a stern, yet impassioned accounting of the Israelite journey of the last 40 years. He pointed out that if the nation had followed God’s perfect roadmap instead of their own, and set aside their fears, needs and wants, they could have avoided generations of heartache and struggle. 01/18    $3 WORTH OF GOD: I AM THE LORD             Audio

"I would like to buy three dollars' worth of God, please. Not enough to explode my soul or disturb my sleep, but just enough to equal a cup of warm milk, or a snooze in the sunshine...I want ecstasy, not transformation. I want the warmth of the womb, not a new birth. I want a pound of the eternal in a paper sack. I would like to buy three dollars’ worth of God, please" by Wilbur Reese.

1/11 Then They Will Know That I Am The Lord          Audio

Take a good long look at this photo. It's the entire Planet Earth, flattened out so we can easily take it all in. What's in the center of it all? You'll have to take a much closer look to find out. See that little bitty word "Israel"? That location and that name were both appointed by God Almighty.

01/04 PUT THE POT ON THE FIRE            Audio

God begins our nation's calendar year perfectly with a parable given to another mighty nation over 2600 years ago. Appointed on God’s calendar for the 10th day of the 10th month, it falls exactly on New Year’s Day, 2015, on our Gregorian calendar. And it all has to do with a pot and a bunch of comfortable religious folks. This image is an ancient cooking pot from Megidd...o, from around 600 BC, about the time of today’s lesson. This is the time of the year that can begin to become really hard for many of us. It’s the big after-Christmas let down. Consider this quote from a Christian refugee from Bagdad living in a tent in Bethlehem. "[Jesus] is still everything to our Christians in Iraq and he can still be everything to us. You see when Christmas is... over, when you have had all your presents and food, Jesus is all we have got left” http://www.christianpost.com/news/vicar-of-baghdad-the-love-of-the-refugee-child-jesus-is-all-thats-left-for-the-christians-in-iraq-this-christmas-131554/   More...

12/21 IT WAS WINTER...      Audio
Around this time of the year, we do lots of things because we’ve always done it that way. We also believe lots of things for the very same reason. For instance, we never even wonder at all about the songs we sing and how they came to be. It’s Christmas, and we just love singing Christmas carols!

As we begin our Christmas celebrations, sending out pretty Christmas card images like this one, this greeting definitely does not fit in with the usual strains of "O Come All Ye Faithful".  Yet God has appointed this timely lesson with exactly this greeting in Ezra 10:9-10.

Our designated national holiday of Thanksgiving is undeniably THE Feast day of the entire year! This monumental mealtime will feature 46 million turkeys. That’s about 736 million pounds of bird: roasted, grilled or deep-fried.

But hey, one of those turkeys just might get a Presidential pardon! Isn't it all great fun! But turkey-day smiles don't last long. Pictured here is Present John F. Kennedy on November 19, 1963, just 3 days before he was assassinated. (Photo is public domain from Wikipedia Commons) More...
